Strawberry Jam YUMMY!

Im sure I have said this before but I LOVE LOVE LOVE summer specifically because of all the yummy fresh fruits and veggies. Hubby went strawberry picking 2 weeks ago and we froze a ton of strawberries . One thing that is a huge hit in our house is Grandmas strawberry jam, the kids love it , I love it and its super easy. So I made a double batch last week because we ran out of the store bought stuff. The one thing I like about homemade jam is I make it beetle free. About 6 years ago i spread a beetle on my toast and said I would never eat store bought again. EWWWWW! So Im glad to find out how easy it is to make.

2 cups of mashed Starberries
4 cups of sugar ( crazy I know)
1 box of pectin

add the sugar and strawberries , set aside. Boil a 1/4 cup of water with package of pectin let it boil for a couple minutes , then add to strawberry mixture. Pour into tupperware containers and let sit for 24 hrs at room temp. Then throw them in your freezer.

I also did a few smaller containers for our camping trips.

Yesterday wasn't good but TODAY IS!!!!!!

My day started out with a wonderful egg and bacon  meal made by hubby , then he and the 3 oldest went out and picked apples while Brandon my littest man and I puttered around the house. When Brandon went down for his nap I thought I would try and make me a new Sunday skirt. I have never made anything for myself to wear so I was a bit nervous. I used the book One yard Wonders that has a bias skirt pattern. Well I didn't have enough fabric to do it on the bias so I altered a few things and made it work. Im so excited it actually turned out. YAHOO! So here is a picture, sorry for the bad quality I took it in my bathroom to use the mirror.

So this I did between laundry and nap time for Brandon. When Aaron got home I was thrilled he had tons of apples for apple sauce and a flat of fresh pick blueberries YUMMY! I had my niece and 2 nephews over for the afternoon evening so I played for a bit made a sandwich and jello supper ( too hot to cook) the kids were picked up at 7ish and my kids were showered and off to bed YAY how I love bedtime. So this is what happened when the kids went down , cant get any better then this .
How often do you get to cut out fabric at 8pm on your patio . Hubby was outside watering so I cut out 36 of my quilt circles for the quilt I want to make while chatting with Aaron. Once that was done which is now I sat down with an ice cold glass on ice tea and some BC fresh cherries and my blog.(that's what I call a GREAT DAY).... have a nice Sunday.

A screwed up purse

The worst part of sewing is when something just doesnt turn out . I had some nice fabric and wanted to make the buttercup purse made by Rae a free pattern I fond online. Its just didnt work. I was so excited about it but the one thing about screwing up is I always take something out of the experience. I learned how to do pleats which I didn't know how to do . This is the fabric that would have been a beautiful purse:(

Clothing Label

Im really excited to order some labels for anything I make. So this is what it would look like.....

So the meaning behind this name your probably thinking its kinda odd but if you know me it's a phrase I (and my mom)always say and basically means special. So I thought It would be appropriate. What do you think?

Blog design

Im curious how so many bloggers have there own banners and design on there blog. If anyone has tips on how to spruce up my blog please teach me. My blog looks boring.

The Colors of Creation

I was out at a local lake today and just could n`t help but stare at all the beautiful colors around us in nature. God has sure created a masterpiece of beauty here in British Columbia. I feel very blessed to live in such a stunning place. So it got me thinking of the colors of creation. I love all the natural colors and usually lean more towards them when making a craft or shopping for a piece of clothing. I want to share with you a dress from Oliver+S,This is the first project I ever made without phoning someone for help , I was so happy that I could actually do it . I have a hard time with patterns but this one was SUPER EASY! Here it is modeled once again by Madison...

Jeans are now a purse

Last night I had a friend come over to sew. I didn't want to start a big project because as soon as i can get to Joanns I will be continuing on with my quilt. So I saw a stack of old jeans that my sis in law gave me along time ago to add to my jean quilt fabric collection, and thought hmmm maybe I will make Madison a purse . So away I went just winging it and I,m quite happy with the outcome. I think she is too. So here it is very simple......

The wallet and skirt are finshed!

I m super excited that as a beginner sewer I was able to complete these 2 projects no problem. The biggest thing Im coming to terms with is that if i screw something up or am not happy with it , it was still worth it because this is how i am learning. The skirt was fun and super easy my friend Karen now has her tutorial up on her blog I think its a great pattern for all levels of sewing. Here is my little model Madison wearing her new skirt.
And now onto the wallet. I was really happy that I could make a wallet and understand direction so easily. Cyndi  did an awesome job on her first tutorial , actually this is a first for both these ladies. Im really happy with my wallet. After making one I really want to make another just because i know understand how everything goes ect. I couldn't believe that I sewed on a zipper without any problems. The key is to use an actually zipper foot not something you think is a zipper foot ( dumb moment). So here it is.........
